New Construction
Arnold, Maryland

We started from the ground up on this 3 story, 4 level home in Arnold, Maryland.  Our clients approached us with a preliminary drawing in hand, envisioning a spacious residence that would accommodate their family and an in-law suite for their elderly parents. It was thought that the suite needed to be on the first floor for easy accessibility. However, as our architects took a deeper dive into the project, an innovative idea emerged—rather than expanding outward, we could build vertically.

Going vertical transformed the original two-story plan into a magnificent three-story home, complete with an elevator. The clever design not only saved our clients money but also created a more intimate footprint, maximizing the waterfront landscape that surrounds the property.  The design of this home was inspired by a previous design of ours called “The Starling,” but this version would feature a striking new tower design, that housed a continuous staircase connecting all four levels.

The first floor welcomes guests with a stunning foyer that flows into a double-island kitchen, perfect for entertaining.

The built-in bar, designed for warm summer evenings, features accordion-style windows that opened up to the patio, allowing friends and family to mingle both indoors and outdoors. A linear fireplace adorned with custom tile and floating shelves added a touch of elegance, while barn doors led to a cozy double desk home office—a perfect space for productivity amidst the beauty of home.

With its open and spacious floor plan, the second floor boasts another full kitchen, a living room, and a dining area. Here, you’ll also find three large bedrooms and four luxurious bathrooms, each offering walk-in closets and breathtaking views of the river. Vaulted ceilings enhanced the sense of space and light, inviting the natural beauty of the outdoors inside.

Our clients worked with Paquin Interiors for the finishing touches on the interior of the home.

Finally, take the elevator to the top floor (which runs the full length of the tower), and you’ll find two additional bedrooms and another full bathroom. The elevator, which covers all 4 floors of the home, now gives our clients in-laws full access to home, versus just 1 floor. Coupled with a large outdoor patio, the entire family, including the In-laws, can enjoy the stunning sunsets the Magothy River has to offer.
